Generative Design
Immersive Experience
What if you could control time? Past, present + future.
Over the last 14 years, FIELD has intensely examined the creative tensions and relationships between the digital, virtual nature and our inner imaginative worlds, as well as the physical, real nature and our sensorial perception of the world.
It’s impossible for us not to think about the increasingly dramatic effects of human made climate change, which in turn is directly related to hyper-accelerated economic growth, capitalism and consumerism.
Theatre X is an artwork that allows visitors to explore time through morphing accelerated earth landscapes, based on real world data predictions.
A non-linear experience – step 10 years into the past or a 1000 years into the future.
Showing the "edges and material of the simulation" by unraveling the "virtual nature" that our simulation has generated.
By building it up and/ or dissecting it layer by layer we uncover the invisible substructure and hidden meaning of the simulation.
We don’t pretend to know the answers, rather this piece is a subconscious manifestation of the many questions that move us deeply at the moment:
How can we use our knowledge, creativity and influence to change course towards a more symbiotic way of living with nature?
What place is left for art at a time of cultural overproduction?
Do we live in a massive simulation and what would we do if we could simply reset it?
Theatre X is part of a series of immersive and interactive performances of simulated visual natures, first shown in Shanghai in 2019 as part of TX HUAIHAI, a brand new retail concept which aims to create an “interactive and immersive” experience to consumers, in the heart of Shanghai.
